Les Alluvions (from the Latin, alluvius, from alluere, "to wash / rub against") are deposits such as sand, pebbles or gravel carried by running water. Alluvium is deposited in the beds of rivers in layers of varying thickness. Metals and rare or precious stones are transported by the rivers, and then deposited in the sediments meaning one can find gold and even diamonds in the bed of some rivers.
